Maybe a little tailoring would help
This is basically a good dress but in 20/20 hindsight I wish I had paid more attention to the method of construction. When I bought it I thought it was identical in construction to a short dress in the same fabric that I own and love. But after wearing this dress and feeling it was too baggy and shapeless below the bodice area, I realized the short dress has no seam down the back but rather, side panels inserted with two seams such that the short dress has more shape. In addition the “oval” cut of this dress coupled with the nature of the fabric means it can stick out a little on the sides. My plan is to take it to a tailor to see if it could be given more shape by taking it in on the sides. It’s not like I can’t use it the way it is I’d just like it to be a little more curve-hugging. I did try a belt to see if that helped; a regular belt didn’t work because the fabric bunched up but a vintage concho belt worn on the hips looked pretty good.

I love this dress. It's the most versatile piece in my wardrobe. It's dresses up or down and is a great length.

Modern silhouette, interesting fabric
I got the small in Eclipse. I’m 5’5”, 140 lbs. I wish this came in petite because it is about 2 inches longer than I would prefer. The fabric has a rough stiffness that causes the dress to stand away from the body. Which is forgiving, but causes a bit of volume. The shoulders have a snug fit, while the fabric around the torso stands away from the body. So for me, it is not shapely. It is about 2 inches too longer than I prefer. I got the matching long cardigan. This is a great, polished, conservative work dress.
