THE RECYCLED DIFFERENCE:

CASHMERE, POLYESTER, AND NYLON

By repurposing waste, we’re reinventing fabrics that are hard to source sustainably.

Recycled Cashmere

The most sustainable cashmere we’ve found comes from an innovative Italian mill that recycles cutting room trimmings into exceptionally fine yarns. Over the last decade, the high demand for cashmere has led to erosion, soil depletion and desertification in China and Mongolia, where most cashmere goats are raised. By choosing recycled cashmere, we are able to reduce waste and mitigate negative impacts on the land.

Recycled Nylon and Recycled Polyester

Both nylon and polyester are petroleum products. Recycled versions of these materials repurpose waste from a variety of sources including fiber left over from spinning, nylon fishing nets and plastic bottles. However, even recycled nylon and polyester have an environmental downside: Both yarns shed plastic microfibers in home washing machines, sending microfibers out into rivers and oceans. To minimize this increasingly common source of pollution, we try to be strategic in our use of recycled nylon and recycled polyester, choosing it primarily for garments such as puffers and outerwear that don’t need a lot of washing.
