RESPONSIBLE FIBERS

GROWN BY TREES:

TENCEL™ LYOCELL

Soft, smooth and silky, lyocell is a versatile fiber that’s made from plant cellulose. It’s related to viscose and rayon but has far better eco credentials.

We use Tencel™ Lyocell produced by Lenzing, a textile manufacturer that shares our commitment to circular design and supply chain transparency.

Good Forestry

Our fiber starts with a renewable resource: hardwood trees that are responsibly grown on farms. (The forestry behind generic lyocell may be sustainable, but it is not guaranteed.)

Forests are home to 80% of all land-based species and help fight climate change by storing atmospheric carbon. In partnership with the nonprofit Canopy, we’re committed to supporting forest conservation through our fiber purchasing practices. Tencel™ Lyocell means our clothes are free of fiber from ancient or endangered forests.

Good Chemistry

Wood pulp is spun into fiber using a low-toxicity solvent that is recycled in an innovative closed-loop process, reusing 99.5% of chemicals. Tencel™ Lyocell requires less water, less energy and fewer chemicals than conventionally manufactured materials. It’s safer for workers—and better for the environment.

Our Commitment to  TencelLyocell

We began adding Tencel™ Lyocell to our line in 2014 because we were looking for a more sustainable alternative to viscose. Although we haven’t given up viscose entirely, our team has made great progress in developing replacements for viscose fabrics with similar or better qualities—including new favorites like Flex Ponte, Fine Jersey and Textured Stretch Rib.

As part of Horizon 2030, our roadmap for positive impact, we remain committed to sourcing the best, most sustainable materials possible. That’s why we choose Tencel™ Lyocell, season after season.
